Tuesday Taco brought a new meaning yesterday as James and the LeBron James Family Foundation Feeding 340 I promise students and their families Chicken and beef tacos, rice, beans and tortillas with all the fixes. He also helps an Akron, Ohio restaurant, affected by coronavirus.
Call it the special edition of Taco on Tuesday, and it will happen again next week, when the platform brings more meals to Akron families connected to the James Prom I Promise program.
Co-owner of the Akron Family restaurant Nick Nickas said he received a call last week and was happy to help. He started executing his orders almost immediately and began preparing for meals on Monday. He and the restaurant staff arrive at the restaurant at 6am Tuesday Tuesday ET to cook and assemble meals.
He said they finished around 4pm, and the LJFF volunteers parked outside the restaurant. Following recommendations for social isolation, volunteers remain in their cars while workers and volunteers place food in trunks.
Each serving tray provides food for four to five people – enough for more than 1,300 people for dinner.
Volunteers then delivered the meal, calling home first to let them know when they were coming. Families with children at I Promise, closed when the country tried to limit …
