CHICAGO – Devin Booker is finally participating in his first NBA All-Star Game.
The Guardian of Phoenix – who felt himself rejected by voters and coaches when he failed to make the original list for the Sunday game in Chicago – was recorded on Thursday when the player will replace the security guard. Portland defense injured Damian Lillard in the game.
Booker was chosen by Commissioner Adam Silver, who made the final call on injury replacement for All-Star rulers. According to NBA rules, the replacement player must come from the same conference as the injured player.
Lillard injured his groin on Wednesday night and said he wouldn't be able to play in a match or a 3-point competition on Saturday night.
Hopefully someone should have been there and did it … hopefully, Devin Booker or someone will get that position, L Lardard said on Wednesday night.
NBA agrees. Booker will play for Team LeBron – the team chosen by LeBron James, one of the captains along with Milwaukee Muff Giannis Antetokounmpo – on Sunday night, and also take the Lillard position, in a 3-point contest on Saturday.
Booker ranked 10th in the NBA when scoring this season, averaging 26.4 points per game. He and Washington, Bradley Beal, until Thursday morning, the only two goal scorers in the top 10 of the tournament were not selected to the All-Star squad.
The Suns were disappointed that Booker was not selected as a reserve public earlier this month, after he didn't receive enough support from the head coaches of the tournament ….
